Will recruit engineering students from the university
The Tata Motors may have withdrawn its Nano project out of West Bengal, but the company is still keen to recruit engineering graduates from the state.
In a letter to the placement head of the Jadavpur University, the recruitment division of the company said earlier this week that it had decided to employ engineering graduates from the university. The assurance from the Tata Motors comes at a time when major companies are either giving placements a miss or recruiting in lesser numbers due to recession.
“After the Nano pullout and the economic recession, particularly in the automobile industry, there was an apprehension among us that the company might not turn up to recruit students this year. We are relieved that it has kept its commitment like previous years,” said Siddhartha Bhattacharjee, the placement in-charge at Jadavpur University.
According to the university officials, Tata Motors had recruited 16 students from various engineering colleges in the state in July 2008 when the company was in the process of rolling out Nano from the Singur plant. The students who were recruited were from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and production engineering and would complete their degrees in 2009.
The students passing out in the year 2010 will be able to take the interview for placements at the university. Varsity officials feel that this might be good news for the overall industrial climate of the state, which had taken a beating after the Nano pull-out.
