Even as it remains unclear whether the Tatas would remain in Singur or not, mobile operators seem to have made up their mind. As one travels along the Durgapur expressway and moves into Singur, where the Tata’s small car factory is situated, the location indicator of mobile phones reads ‘Tata Motors’.
Till recently, the mobile phones showed Singur or Khaserbheri or Gopalnagar on their screens.
The location indicator is a unique name that a mobile service provider gives to a particular tower and is usually the name of the area, said an official of a mobile service provider.
“For the tower erected near the Tata Motors factory, it was found most appropriate to identify the area as Tata Motors,” the official added.
“This was neither intentional nor preplanned. The engineers installing the tower thought it right to name the tower as Tata Motors owing to the proximity of the small car factory,” said a representative of another mobile service provider.
