Teachers should act as guides to the students: Prof Yash Pal

He also said India has to bring ideas and designs from abroad despite becoming expertise in several sectors.

Acclaimed physicist and former Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC),Prof Yash Pal on Wednesday said the teachers should act as proper guides of the students to show the way into the realm of knowledge.

“Teachers should not get tuned into courier service. A syllabus is framed by the educational board and teachers start inputting the contents into the students’ brain. It is not sufficient. They would act as proper guides of the students to show the way into the realm of knowledge,” he told reporters during an interaction.

Paul,came here on Monday and addressed a seminar on “Capacity building of students in Higher Education” here on Tuesday.

He also said India has to bring ideas and designs from abroad despite becoming expertise in several sectors.

“This is necessary due to stark deficit of new ideas in the educational sector. Curriculum has to be universal but syllabi have to be framed based on local standards,” he said.
