Complaining against attempts to sideline its suggestions on the Lokpal Bill, the civil society representatives on Monday wrote to the government urging it to ensure that their version of the draft should be given equal weightage while finalising the Bill.
Shanti Bhushan, one of the five non-government representatives, wrote to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee expressing apprehensions that a comparative chart prepared by Law Minister M Veerappa Moily did not reflect the views of the civil society accurately.
Whereas there are inaccuracies at many places, the sections from the Jan Lokpal Bill (prepared by civil society) have also not been fully quoted at many other places, Bhushan, the co-chair of the drafting committee, said.
Mr Moily is also believed to have said that the government draft is the real draft and Annas draft is at best a dissent note. We do not agree with that. There were ten members in the committee. Five endorsed one draft while the other five endorsed the other draft. Both the drafts enjoy equal weightage as far as the outcome of the joint committee is concerned. I would urge you to treat both drafts as the outcome of the joint committee, Bhushan said in his letter.
