  • A splash is what tech freaks were in for in 2008, and it continues even as the year draws to an end

The T word ruled every zone this year. Be it Obama’s historic win, the recreation of Bing Bang that quite stirred the real and metaphysical world for the astro gurus, the super cool effects that vowed many in tinsel town, the never-so-cool celeb rivalries turning virtual, and the terror attacks in India where technology was a massive factor in planning and execution - technology as a newsmaker just got better and bigger. And closer home, technical leaps became huge with apna Chandrayan reaching for the moon. Here’s a round-up of all that kept us tech-savvy through the year.

Not Quite So Nano- The year opened up to Tata’s much awaited Nano car announced at the Delhi Auto Expo. The Rs one lakh car created quite a stir world-over and the middle class ‘aam admi’ saw a hero in Ratan Tata. Crowned ‘the world’s cheapest car’, Nano boasted sleek curves, roomy interiors and fuel efficiency. Though Nano was in trouble finding itself homeless, Tata’s small wonder is anticipated for still by the rural and the urban population alike, courtesy the increasing traffic.

Lost & Found- Global Positioning System (GPS) became accessible to a larger population with more gadgets saving a space. Though still to reach the masses, GPS is ‘the’ thing for metros. Navigation and landmark details are all available through cars and phones with major players like Nokia, Blackberry, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson battling it out in the higher end markets.

    ... contd.
