A woman techie died on Friday morning after she fell off the seventh floor terrace of her office building in Yerawada. The woman identified as 38-year-old Archana Sandeep Dasar is suspected to have committed suicide. Police said personal problems are suspected to have driven her to take the extreme step.
The IBM techie was a resident of Tatya Tope Housing Society in Wanavdi.
Although police suspect it to be a case of suicide, they have registered an accidental death report as no suicide note has been found. Yerawada police are investigating the matter.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Prakash Gharge said that CCTV footage shows Archana entering the office premises at 10.03am and going to her workplace on the third floor. She spoke to her colleagues for some time and then went to the terrace on the seventh floor by lift. She was alone in the lift while going to the terrace.
She is suspected to have jumped from the terrace around 10.30am when the sound of body falling on the ground was heard.
She was rushed to a private hospital and then to Sassoon Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said that postmortem reports said she died of multiple injuries.
While the company did not comment on the death, Archana is believed to have joined the firm in 2008. She was working on a project along with a team of 44 engineers.
The terrace from where she is suspected to have jumped is used by employees for short breaks and as a smoking area.
Preliminary police investigation revealed that Archana's father had passed away a few months ago and she had been disturbed ever since.
Her husband Sandeep is a software engineer with Wipro in Hinjewadi. The couple have a 12-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter. Archana's mother lives with them. The family refused to speak to mediapersons.
