SI shot dead during vehicle checking
A sub-inspector was shot dead on Friday night while frisking three motorcycle-borne youths during a vehicle checking drive in Kotwali area of Lakhimpur Kheri district.

Lucknow Range IG AK Jain said Jitendra Singh Teotia was checking vehicles around 9.30 pm, after the last show of Gemini Circus was over.

Teotia, in plainclothes, had stopped six youths, who were riding three each on two motorcycles. As he was about to frisk one, the youth whipped out a pistol and fired from a point blank range.

The S-I sustained bullet injuries in his stomach and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead, the IG said.

The assailants are absconding and the hunt for them is on.
