Telangana: Fearing violence,armed forces to patrol Hyderabad,Cy’bad

PM Manmohan Singh has ordered paramilitary forces and police into major cities.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his top Cabinet ministers including the home minister,and defence minister had gone into a huddle to devise a method to control violence that may get generated in the wake of the Srikrishna Committee submitting its report on whether Andhra Pradesh should be bifurcated to create the new state of Telangana.

Twenty three companies of paramilitary forces have been allotted to Hyderabad and nearby Cyberabad police commissionerates to meet any situation that may arise after the Srikrishna Committee on Telangana submits its report to the Union home minister,police said today.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner,A K Khan said 18 companies of paramilitary forces were sought from the Centre and 11 companies have arrived.

In addition to that,the Cyberabad (outskirts of Hyderabad and also the state’s IT hub) police were allotted five companies of forces of which two companies are deployed in Madhapur area where most of IT giants like TCS,Wipro,Microsoft and Mahindra Satyam are located,a Cyberabad police official said.

“We requested 18 companies of paramilitary forces of which 11 have already arrived. We have deployed them at sensitive places. We are expecting the remaining seven in a day or two,” Khan told reporters here.

The top cop,however,said he did not anticipate any trouble and ready to tackle any situation.

“In democracy,everyone has a right to dissent and protest. But if anyone tries to take law in their hands,we will not let it happen. Additional forces are brought for the safety of the public,” he said trying to allay the fears of political parties in Telangana that the additional forces were brought to crush separate Telangana movement.

“We deployed two companies of paramilitary forces for Madhapur Zone. As it is we have intensified security in this area keeping in view of the IT industry. We do not anticipate any trouble in this area as everyone knows that the IT industry is breadwinner for the state,” Vijay Kumar,DCP,Madhapur,Cyberabad said.

According to a senior police official,the Centre had dispatched about 50 companies,or about 4,500 personnel,from various central forces,including CISF and BSF,to Hyderabad for deployment in the Telangana region.

The Srikrishna Committee is due to submit its report on the Telangana issue on or before December 31.

Fearing an outbreak of violence after the report is submitted,the state government has sought at least 125 companies of central forces.

Intelligence reports have warned that violence may erupt in some places if the Committee report does not come in favour of the pro-Telangana parties.
