A year after the terror attacks, television viewers will be able to relive the moments as a movie, Un Hazaaron Ke Naam, produced by Sphere Origins Multivision, will be aired on Star Plus at 10 pm on November 26. The movie, directed by Sidharth Sengupta, stars veterans Vinod Khanna and Seema Biswas.
“We want to send out a message of hope and peace. This is our tribute to Mumbai and its citizens,” said Sengupta. The movie does not seek to analyse the plan or execution of the attacks but focuses on stories of individuals and their families. Like an old man who finds himself alone with his grandson after his son and daughter-in-law are gunned down. A young woman widowed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a chef working at the Oberoi, the general manager at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, a spoilt young girl who finds a conscience and a couple on the verge of divorce who reunite in the face of terror.
The stories, though based on real-life events, have been fictionalised with the names of characters altered. Thus Karambir Kang becomes Kant and baby Moshe becomes Moses.
“Research took about three months. We started shooting in May and wrapped up within a month. However, we faced a lot hurdles. The hotels targeted refused to let the crew on their premises. We recreated the sets at the Tulip Star Hotel in Juhu.
Sengupta said he is worried about being accused of making money out of a tragedy. “It still worries me. The attack is so fresh in our minds and the wounds are still raw.
