  • In a temporary relief to hundreds of MCD employees sacked by the present Mayor on grounds of illegal appointment, the civic agency today told the Delhi High Court that it has withdrawn the decision for termination for the time being.

Accepting the submission made by the MCD lawyer on a petition challenging the Mayor’s June 25 termination order, Justice Sidharth Mridul directed the MCD to follow the proper procedure before taking such a step.

The court directed MCD to supply, within ten days, the copy of G P Thareja Commission report to all 799 Class-III and IV staff, employed with Hardayal Municipal Public Library, and thereafter the Mayor can take a decision as per law.

Relying on Thareja Commission report, which stated that these employees have been illegally appointed by the previous Mayor between July 2006 and February 2007, the present Mayor had passed the termination order recently. Challenging the order, about 111 employees today approached the High Court, which disposed of their petition in view of the MCD counsel’s statement that for now the decision was withdrawn.
