Diabetes and hypertension are the most common health disorders among the Indian expatriates living in Saudi Arabia, a team of doctors in Riyadh have said.

The doctors examined around 650 Indian expatriates, mostly from Kerala, who turned up for free health check up at a camp organised by a social organisation on last Friday, Saudi Gazette reported.

Specialists – who were from Shifa Al-Jazeera Polyclinic and Riyadh Indian Medical Association – said most patients were not even aware that they were suffering from diabetes, increased cholesterol levels and hypertension. Quite a few had allergic bronchitis and some complained about frequent back pain.

"We as a team diagnosed around 20 new cases of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and 50 new cases of among the people who visited the camp for free medical check up to have been suffering from hypertension," Dr Rajashekhar, a physician, told the newspaper.

Patients were advised to undergo routine health check up and smokers were asked to quit the habit and take a balanced diet to stay healthy while working in Saudi Arabia.
