  • The Congress on Monday demanded a CBI investigation into the planting of bombs in Surat, saying if the Gujarat Government is clear on the issue, it should hand over the probe to the premier investigating agency.

Reacting to the statement of Puri Shankaracharya Adhokshanand Devteerth in Guwahati where he alleged that the discovery of live bombs in Surat was a conspiracy of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said the state Government should come clear on it.

Tewari claimed the Congress was not making an allegation but said the Shankacharya’s allegations were serious.

The party spokesman said senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has already indicated about it in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Singh had said that people should take cognisance of the fact that bomb blasts took place in the country when the BJP was in trouble.

“Whenever BJP is in trouble, bomb blasts take place in the country ...,” Singh had said while addressing a two-day party convention of the Congress’ state unit.
