Terror plot: ‘Suspected LeT man was heading towards Aurangabad’

A suspected LeT terrorist,arrested in the capital,was headed towards Aurangabad to hand over explosives to two men believed to be part of a terror module.

A suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist,arrested in the capital,was headed towards Aurangabad in Maharashtra to hand over explosives to two men believed to be part of a terror module,police claimed on Wednesday.

Investigations are also on to ascertain whether Mohd Aslam alias Salim,who was arrested from New Delhi railway station yesterday,had visited Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and whether he along with his accomplices was planning terror strikes in Maharashtra during the festive season.

Aslam was caught by Delhi Police’s Special Cell about an hour before he was to board a Nanded-bound Sachkand Express at around 1:30 pm yesterday. He was caught allegedly with four detonators,two timers and two kgs of explosive chemicals.

Aslam,who was remanded to police custody till September nine by a Delhi court,was allegedly carrying explosives in sweet boxes to be delivered to his accomplices to Aurangabad district.

Police said in the court that he has disclosed names of his two associates. He allegedly has links in Gujarat and Maharashtra where he is involved in some cases,they claimed.

Investigators are also planning to take Aslam to Aurangabad and efforts are on to ascertain his involvement in cases in Gujarat and Maharashtra.

“We have alerted Maharashtra Police about the arrest as well as Jammu and Kashmir Police,” a senior police official said.

Aslam was allegedly carrying a Jammu and Kashmir identity card bearing the name Salim Mohammed as also a Pakistani passport bearing the name Yusuf.

Sources said they were interrogating the suspect as to ascertain LeT’s plan. “We are interrogating him. We want to know whether they had any plans to disrupt the festivities,” they said.

The arrest comes at a time when people are celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi as well as observing fast during the month of Ramadan.
