Following complaints of adulterated food items being distributed by ration depots and lack of proper service,Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari has decided to inspect shops and keep a tab on them.

A 12-point performa has been designed and ranks will be given to the depots on the basis of points earned by them, following which suitable action will be taken, said Tiwari. To start with,325 depots falling in the purview of the district food and civil supplies controller (east) will be checked on May 15 between 9.30 and 11.30 am.

The DC has appointed a total of 325 staff members from the corporation and social security wing and 28 supervisors have also been deputed to check whether the employees are doing their job properly. Tiwari has appealed all ration cardholders to come to the depots during the inspection hours and get their complaints and suggestions registered with the officer. This will be recorded as feedback on the spot.

The survey takes many factors into consideration — whether the owner opens the shop on time, his behaviour with customers, the quality of ration,if the items are weighed correctly, whether manual or electronic weighing is undertaken and if the stock is mentioned on the board of the depot. If the depot holder gets 3 points out of 12,he will be ranked average and if he gets 6 points, the rating will be good,9 pointers will get very good and more than nine will be awarded for excellent performance. Tiwari said: “I have received a number of complaints about depot holders,so finally I thought of taking public feedback.”

The complaints have also mentioned that at times, the ration cardholders get grains with worms and are repeatedly turned back saying that ration is out of stock.

The Newsline team also found many depots closed and no stock details are written on the boards.
