The textile businessmen of other states have complained to the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA) about the poor policing by the Surat police.
The New Super Cloth Merchant Association of Ratlam has sent a letter to FOSTTA to ensure the safety and security of cloth merchants who visit Surat to purchase sarees and other dress materials. With Diwali and Eid round the corner, the market is expected to see a heavy rush of buyers and it is feared that pickpockets may take advantage of the situation.
Only a few days ago, Arun Jain, the former president of the New Super Cloth Merchant Association of Ratlam in MP became a victim of pick pockets at the Ring Road outside Swadeshi Textile Market. He lost Rs 50,000 cash. He made a representation to FOSTTA president Shri Kishan Banka about the theft and returned to Ratlam without lodging a complaint with the Surat police.
Arun also lodged a complaint with the New Super Cloth Merchant Association of Ratlam and requested them to take up the issue with the concerned authorities. Two days ago, the New Super Cloth Merchant Association posted a letter to Banka, requesting them to make special security arrangements for the businessmen coming from other states. The association also sent copies to Chief Minister Narenda Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah about the nuisance created by miscreants in the Ring Road area.
Rajesh Dangi, Secretary of the New Super Cloth Merchant Association of Ratlam, said: “We have found that many cloth merchants of Ratlam become victims of thefts. We have requested the FOSTTA president to pay attention to the safety and security of cloth merchants coming from the other states. The reason why we don’t follow up things with the police is that we don’t get proper response from the local police authorities.”
