The city returned to normalcy on Friday as Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's health was reported to be "improving".
The crowds outside his residence Matoshree also dwindled as party spokesperson Sanjay Raut said his blood pressure and pulse rate were "normal", and that Thackeray remained critical but stable and was responding to treatment.
Most offices and shops remained open in the city even as traffic returned to normal. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan held a meeting to review the law and order.
Announcing that Thackeray's condition was "better than yesterday", the Sena spokesperson said: "Prayers are being offered for him, he will recover with the help of these."
