After missing its June deadline, the work at the Thane Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme is now in final stages.

After missing its June deadline, the work at the Thane Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) is now in final stages. According to civic officials, the work would be completed in a week or two.

Close to Thane railway station, work on the inclined approach road to the elevated deck for public transport buses has been completed. This approach road has facilitated the movement of construction vehicles on to the deck without causing any hindrance to the traffic below. There are couple of segments of concrete slabs to be laid, which would be done next week.

The first segment is the triangular portion of the elevated road at Girnar Tea point. This work of pouring 300 cubic metres of concrete is expected to start on July 10.

The second segment is located near Dr Oak’s Hospital where the work on 36 metre concrete slab is expected to be undertaken on July 15-16. The work on the inclined exit at the Dada Patil Road is expected to be over by July 20. Moreover, the 30 metre girder, the longest segment work at junction of Zilla Parishad,is almost over. All that remains is the stressing of the steel cables which is expected to take place on July 13. To facilitate the external stressing of steel cables, the launching of the adjoining girder has been withheld. Once the stressing of cables is complete next week, the last girder of the SATIS project would be launched.

The TMC officials are hoping to a get a few days of dry spell to get the remainder of the asphalting work done.

In the second week of May 2009,SATIS achieved a significant milestone as part of the elevated concourse was thrown open to the public at Thane railway station. Later the sky-walk connecting the station FOB at the north end has also been thrown open to the public.
