The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will on Saturday open to public the second of the four flyovers which it is building to ease traffic congestion on the Thane-Ghodbunder Road. The Patlipada flyover, which will be commissioned this week, will be 17 metres wide and 305 metres in length. The flyover, which will cross the Patlipada junction, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 21 crore.
The four flyovers—the Patlipada flyover, Waghbil flyover, Kapurbawdi flyover and Manpada flyover—are being constructed under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project, which the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is executing as the nodal authority.
Of these, the Waghbil flyover was opened in March this year.
"Work on the Manpada flyover is in the final stages of completion and is expected to be opened by the end of January 2013," the MSRDC, which is the implementing agency for the construction, said in a statement.
"Similarly, work on the Kapurbawdi flyover is on track and the plan is to open the flyover for traffic by the end of December 2013," the MSRDC said.
Ghodbunder road is 14 kilometres in length starting from Majiwada.
There has been a steady rise in population in areas along the road over the past few years.
