Shashi Tharoor expressed his gladness that patients would now get high quality attention.

Union Minister of State Shashi Tharoor is now hitting at Left parties for politicising health issues and trying to "divert resources" meant for a mental health centre in Kerala.

"Politicizn (politicising) of health issues is a bane. 125 yr old Tvm Mntl Hlth Ctr (125-year-old Trivandrum Mental Health Centre) recmnded (recommended) by experts for upgrading but Left Govt tried 2 (to) divert resources," he wrote on his page at Twitter, the micro-blogging website.

Earlier, Tharoor had evoked sharp criticism from Left parties, for his now infamous 'cattle class' remarks, which was interpreted in political circles as poking fun at the government's austerity measures.

In his latest tweet, Tharoor said he "called Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to thank him for accepting my plea to accord Centre of Excellence status and funding" to the mental health centre.

The Minister of State for External Affairs also expressed his gladness that patients would now get high quality attention.

There were reports that Kerala government was opposing the Centre's plan for developing the oldest care centre for the mentally ill in the state into a centre of excellence.

However Kerala Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy had earlier said the state government was keen on utilising funds allocated to the state and was open for discussions.

Tharoor said he was tweeting "en route Kanpur to campaign in a by-election".

Are you guys jobless?By: Ramesh | 27-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Seems Indian Express is trying in vain to put Shashi Tharoor in some fix. Your earlier attempts never worked! Please understand that Tharoor is also a politician, so he has all rights to express his political views through whichever medium he prefer. Trying to write a sarcastic article will only increase his follower base. Your reporters need to look less at Tharoor's tweets and step out of their AC cabins to report other news items.
good oneBy: reader | 27-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Congratulations Mr. Tharoor. You are the best one that retarded Kerala have ever seen in the centre cabinet. Other ministers from that Kerala are of no use nonsense!
Importance of CPI(M)By: Kumar | 27-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward CPI(M) was said to have created by Nehru-CIA in 1950's to absorb moderately all extreme leftists to a controlled democratic enviroment.Any weakening(allready weakened/moderated) CPI(M) will only help ultra leftists like Maoists/Naxals/Red Flag...etc. This is obvious in eastern India, weak CPI(M) fueling ultra leftism. So CPI(M) have a asmall roll to play as a constructive political appetizer in a democratic system to accomodate all left thinking minds moderately. Please let them.
You must be joking!By: Apaaraa | 27-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward After blaming America and the CIA for everything, you are now saying that they created you, and that's why you should be allowed to survive? I say down with the commies and as a fitting reply the ultras should be crushed without mercy. Commies and their outdated policies serve no one. Even Hienrich Himmler tried such a joke with the allies in the last stage of WWII, but the british had enough of his kind and put and end to him.
