Role Call
TODAY, comic and negative roles have some popular stars as well as character actors. This is evident from Jury nominations for Best Actor in a Comic Role (Male/Female) and Best Actor in a Negative Role (Male/Female) categories. Abhishek Bachchan, who had the audience in splits with his act of a kathak dance teacher in Bol Bachchan, bags a nomination for Best Actor in a Comic Role category. Rishi Kapoor has been nominated in two categories — for his supporting act in Student Of The Year and as Best Actor in a Negative Role category for Agneepath. Sharing the space with him in the latter category are Sanjay Dutt for Agneepath and Mithun Chakraborty for OMG: Oh My God!. Interestingly, filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia, who made his on-screen debut with Gangs Of Wasseypur, also finds a nomination in this category.
Spot them Young
THIS year, the category of Best Child Artiste sees three nominations, unlike five in 2012. Nevertheless, it is an interesting mix of actors. Mohammad Samad, who played the lead role in Gattu has bagged a nomination along with Ritwik Sahore for Ferrari Ki Sawaari. Nila Madhab Panda, who found Harsh Mayar for I Am Kalam last year, has tapped another talent this year — Laher Khan, who made a mark with her performance in Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid.
Newcomer Central
A NUMBER of debutant filmmakers showcased their talent through unconventional subjects. The Most Promising Debut Director category sees the following nominees: Shakun Batra, who directed a love story with "just friends" climax in Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu; Gauri Shinde who helmed a woman-centric film with Sridevi in the lead; Sameer Sharma for directing a "food film" Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana and Karan Malhotra for doing justice to the remake of the iconic Agneepath. Producer-actor Arbaaz Khan bagged a nomination too for directing Dabangg 2.
