What DeceptionBy: Dr. Ajay | 14-Feb-2009Reply | ForwardWhat great deception? The analysis is clear that Pak's nuke development was 'winked and nodded' on by USA. CIA considered Pakistan to be 'its' bastard' and its activities as manageable 'blowback'. USA allowed it for its compulsions in the great game in Central Asia. The deception crown belongs to USA. Pakistan tries to 'use' and gets 'used' - "it is a transactional relationship" (VP Joe Biden's quote). For USA, the chicken have now come home to roost as terrorism while the other Great Game players get free advantage. India was/is ignorable. Two big questions: When and what does it take (a) for USA to take off its own crown of deception vis-a-vis Pakistan, and (b) for India to shore up its efforts in foreign policy
Self DeceptionBy: Shirish | 12-Feb-2009Reply | ForwardIndeed a very good analysis- in fact an eye opener for those who wish to open their eyes and see the things in right perspective. Pakistan never was reliable, US is always a selfish country looking to safeguard its own interests- never mind even if at the cost of others. In this circumstances, it is for India to understand that it has to act first on its own on matters with Pakistan / China. the earlier we realize this the better.
Self DeceptionBy: Promod Kapoor | 12-Feb-2009Reply | ForwardThe Pakistanis have been playing this game since early fifties when they were able to convince the Americans that were ready to fight against communism, while the only enemy they had in mind was India. And India has been only reacting to actions of Pakistan and China. No rational military or political leader will use nucler weapon in a war,if there is threat of similar retaliation. If ever a WMD is used by terrorists it will be against India and not the US as the response from US would be overwhelming and Pakistan would face utter destruction while we would be left wringing our hands. However looking at the problem from species perspective, human beings have no alternative than to earnestly think of cooperating to outlaw WMDs or face annihilation sooner or later.
Great Self deceptionBy: oldindian | 12-Feb-2009Reply | Forwardhoping against hope! america as on date has neither the wherewithall nor stomach to confront any challenger. Its forces are in such disarray and its strategic thinking so clutered; america is finding its hand full trying to protect itself from its enemies. Whether it is iran or pakistan or north korea it is unable to act to influence the course of events. Obama's position that america will restrict its involvement in afghanistan to military level has been met with stony silence from its NATO allies. Against this reality america will have to bend back completely to win favors from pak army for it to do anything meaningful in afghanistan. This is reality. India is committing folly by wishing the problems away. Add to this Pak has full blessings from china. If at all india has any pretense of wanting to become meaningful regional player, it has to act. But that is too much to expect from our govt 'not doing anything' translates to total inaction.
"The Great Deception"By: Ashutosh Malik | 12-Feb-2009Reply | ForwardAnd the so called "liberal, right thinking opinion makers" in media, Government, Opposition parties would like us to believe that by taking the evidence of November 26, Mumbai attack to the so called International community lead by US, we will be able to bring the perpetrators to justice. It has always been clear that US will act in its interests as it did in case of the Pakistan-China profileration effort. So also with other countries. If we want to live in a fool's paradise, best of luck to us!Fact is that no nation worth its salt has allowed others to take care off its security issues. While the Government may be trying to balance our international obligations and the domestic opinon, the only way ahead for India will have to involve building leverage against the Chinese and the Pakistanis, both overtly and covertly. If not, we will just be an impotent Power that is always fighting with its back against the wall and worrying about when we will be hit next!
