  • Losing faith in police, Shah's cousin filed a petition with the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC). After several hearing's, the Commission asked the IG Police to submit a report about Shah. In the meantime Shah's relatives were told by some people that he is lodged at Udhampur jail. The human rights commission also wrote a letter to the jail superintendent. But, the superintendent refused Shah's presence in his jail.

    Finally, the human rights commission asked J-K Chief Secretary to pay Rs 1 lakh to the family of Shah as compensation and a government job under SRO-43. Neither the job nor the compensation was given to the family. Meanwhile, Zareefa continue to seek alms from villagers for her children. "From past ten years, I have been looking towards to government and Non Governmental Organisations. But no one came to our rescue."
