National Award-winning actor Atul Kulkarni is evidently comfortable in his skin. Looking very different from the slim and suave lovelorn script writer of Premachi Goshta, the perfectionist proudly wears a curly hairdo and bulging muscles for his upcoming Marathi film Popat,in which he plays a Kolhapuri videographer. The film, due to release on August 23,has been directed by Satish Rajwade and produced by Mirah Entertainment. It also features young actors Amey Wagh,Siddharth Menon,Ketan Pawar,Anita Date,Neha Shitole and Megha Ghadge.
Recently in the city to promote the film, the actor said,The story starts with a comic element but gradually takes a serious turn, which will force audiences to think. Rajwade said it is an inspiring, creative and entertaining work. Popat is targeted at a wider audience from both the urban and rural Maharashtra, he added.
The team said that the dialect used in the film is infused with sweetness and people will connect with it easily. Talking about his expectations from Popat,Kulkarni says that since the movie is not a stereotypical comedy,he has high hopes. Besides, which actor does not want a blockbuster, he asked.
The actor is also working on a Bollywood project, titled Dirty Politics,a drama film directed by KC Bokadia featuring Mallika Sherawat,Jackie Shroff,Anupam Kher,Om Puri and Ashutosh Rana. He will also make his debut in Hollywood with Roland Joffes film,Singularity. The film will be a sweeping tale of an impossible love set against the backdrop of the first Anglo-Maratha war, across two time periods and continents.
