In an ongoing exhibition, three photographers push the medium as a fine art
Printing photographs on canvas seems to be the latest trend. The exhibition titled,Infinite Perspectives, hosted at Creativity Gallery in Hauz Khas, showcases the works of Anubhav Das and Ravi Dhingra, whose photographic images are printed on canvas. The third,Anwita Sarin, has chosen photographs from her husband,Arun Sarins, family archive.
Das and Dhingra havent only transferred pretty images from photographic paper onto canvas; each frame is characterised by a close study of the aesthetics of light, composition and subject matter.
Dhingras images highlight the life of Tibetan monks living in Delhi,Mcleodganj and Jirang monasteries. He has used an interesting method to highlight their presence,I shot the entire image in colour, then, using a software called Light Room,I bled the colours out of the subjects in the composition, except the monks,
says the corporate financier-turned-photographer.
Das,who studied photography in New York, focuses on the rugged architecture of the Mandwa Fort in
MP. His images are heavy with
nostalgia for the time-worn surfaces and are beautiful studies of light. Ive mounted the works differently from conventional photographs, says Das,who has stuck roughly
cut printed canvases over larger painted ones.
Sarin traces the life of her husbands 84-year-old British grandmother through photographs and memorabilia that have been interestingly displayed in drawers with flickering lights inside them, old cabinets and cupboards. Ive also used my background in textile and design to work with the photographs and created some tapestries, says Sarin.
The exhibition is on till October 9. Contact: 9811422752
