The NSA apprised Chidambaram about the security scenario and the investigations into the terror strikes in Mumbai which claimed over 180 lives.

Chidambaram was allocated the Home Ministry portfolio on Sunday following the resignation of Shivraj Patil, who was under attack for his handling the internal security situation in the country.

Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta had met Chidambaram on Sunday and gave him a briefing on the ministry, especially in the current context of tackling the menace of terrorism.
