Pune's Piyush Thakur is the only Indian at the ongoing 7th International Student Film Camp in Serbia

A chance look at an online portal inviting applications for film students, saw city-based film editing student Piyush Thakur land one of the coveted 15 spots at the 7th International Student Film Camp. Held annually in Serbia, the camp brings together film students from across the globe to share their cultures and traditions in the form of documentaries that are screened at the camp. Close to 200 applications from film schools in India were sent to the organisers three months back. Thakur, remarkably the only one from India, has joined film students from 16 countries, who will be making the films during the camp held in Serbia from August 7 to August 25.

Speaking all the way from Eastern European nation, says Thakur, "Besides the film camp, which will be a learning experience in itself in terms of culture and heritage, there are a lot of things that one can look forward to as a film maker here." An editing student at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Thakur had first shot to fame with his short film 'Khara Karodpati', which won the award at the Student Short Fiction award 2011 by the Indian Documentary Producer's Association (IDPA) and was also showcased at the 34th Clermont-Ferrand short film festival in France this year.

While there are 15 students from across the globe, the remaining five are from Serbia. A total of four groups of five students will be formed at the camp. These four groups will go to the provinces of Cacak, Uzice, Kosjeric and Pozega, where they will be making films on the theme of 'Arrivals/Departures'. All the films will be screened on August 23 at the Cultural Centre of Pozega, and the following day at the Cultural Centre of Belgrade, Movie Theatre.
