The driver of a Honda City gave slip to the police and left behind the car, which the police claimed to be stolen. Investigation Officer ASI Manjit Singh said he was heading a police party near Sector 70 market this afternoon when he got a tip-off that a person was driving in a stolen car in search of a customer to sell the vehicle.

When the police spotted the car coming towards the check-post and signalled it to stop, the driver stopped much ahead of the check-post and ran away, leaving behind the car, Singh said.

The car had a Chandigarh registration number and a few documents pertaining to a resident of Baltana in Zirakpur were recovered from the car.  “We have launched a manhunt and hope to nab the accused soon,” said Singh, adding that a case under Section 411 of the IPC has been registered.
