Former IPS officer B S Thind, who has served as managing director of Agro Packaging India Limited (APIL),a state government PSU owning an apple carton manufacture plant, questioned the state government on Wednesday for selling off the plant machinery for Rs 1.3 crore against its actual market value of Rs 20 crore. Thind rejected Horticulture Minister Narinder Bragtas charges against him of mismanagement, which the latter had identified as reasons for the huge losses at the plant. The former police officer said the CBI should be asked to look into the auction of the machinery and FIRs be lodged against Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and his cabinet ministers. Thind accused the BJP government of fabricating cases against him. There is need for a CBI probe into the affairs of the PSU,including sale of its machinery at low cost, he said. In 1998,the BJP had lodged an FIR against Thind accusing him of irregularities committed during his tenure as MD of the loss making PSU.
