Third Delhi Shatabdi to offer smoother, faster ride

The third Shatabdi that is to start between Chandigarh and Delhi from January 14 will be the first to have newly designed couplers to ensure a jerk-free journey. Such couplers are currently used in Rajdhani and Duronto. The train will ply six days a week, except on Sundays, and will not have any stoppages on the way.

The fare will be Rs 513 for the chair car and Rs 1,080 for the executive. After the hike, which comes into force on January 21, it will be Rs 541 and Rs 1,108, respectively. Passengers who have to travel on or after this date, but have already booked their tickets, will have to pay the remaining fare on board.

The journey time would be 12 minutes shorter than the two Kalka Shatabdi trains. While Kalka Shatabdi takes 3 hours and 32 minutes to cover the distance, the Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi will cover the distance in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

The fare for the morning Kalka Shatabdi (12006) between Chandigarh and Delhi is Rs 451 for chair car. This will increase to Rs 479, while it will be Rs 988 for the executive. Similar is the fare for the Kalka Shatabdi (12011) that returns from Delhi in the morning.

The fare for 12005 Kalka Shatabdi from Delhi in the evening has increased from Rs 436 to Rs 464 for the chair car and from Rs 940 to Rs 968 for executive. Fares for chair car in Kalka Shatabdi (12012) departing from Chandigarh in the evening, too has been increased from Rs 524 to Rs 552. For the executive it has increased from Rs 1,075 to Rs 1,103.

Day after hike, Section 144 outside Bansal's house

Fearing protests by Opposition parties against recent announcement of a hike in rail fares from January 21, the Chandigarh Administration has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC near the Sector 28 residence of Union Minister of Railways Pawan Kumar Bansal on Thursday. Section 144 prohibits assembly of more than five people in an area. As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate Mohammad Shayin, any rally, protests or carrying of lathis in 500-metre radius of the house will be prohibited for the next three days starting January 11-13.
