In the third such case to be reported in Noida in two weeks, a one-year-old girl was found abandoned near a garbage dump on Monday night. Police said the girl was found by a PCR patrol van around 10 pm near Rajnigandha Chowk, after which she was rushed to the district hospital.
Police said the girl has been declared fit and shifted to a private shelter home in the city.
Police also said there was evidence of abuse on the girl's body. "She was spotted by policemen who were making their rounds in the light of the increased security before Independence Day. She was rushed to the hospital and doctors told us that there were cigarette burns, which was a few days old, on her neck."
A police officer said they were yet to locate the girl's parents. "There is no missing persons report. However, her clothes were in a ragged state, suggesting that her parents may have been poor and might have abandoned her due to economic reasons," a senior police officer said.
Last week, a one-year old boy was found abandoned on the pavement and is still undergoing treatment at Sucheta Kriplani Hospital in Delhi. Police had said the child, who suffered from a mental illness, had injuries that were consistent with those sustained on being thrown from a moving vehicle.
Another infant, about 15 days old, was also found abandoned last week. She has been sent to a shelter in Mathura, police said.
