UT Administrator and Punjab Governor General S F Rodrigues (Retd) inaugurated two prestigious projects a working womens hostel in Sector 24 and the third phase of Snehalaya at Maloya on Monday.
Accompanied by wife Jean,the Administrator went around the complex of the working womens hostel constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 2.28 crore. The two four-storeyed blocks comprising 44 dormitories can accommodate 132 beneficiaries.
Rodrigues inspected the various facilities in the halls,dormitories,kitchen and dinning hall and discussed ways of strengthening the support structure with senior officers to enhance the utility of the project.
He asked the officers to evolve a responsive system of security and also recreational facilities for the residents of the hostel and also said that the complex and halls should be beautified with murals and paintings.
After the hostel,it was the turn of the third phase of Snehalaya – a home for streetchildren,to be inaugurated. The first and second modules of the project were inaugurated on October 27,2008 and March 2,2009,respectively.
The third module comprises an additional block for 300 girls and an administrative block. The objective of the centre is to empower streetchildren by providing them counselling services and imparting vocational training to them.
The Administrator inspected the workshops created to run training courses in the field of computers,electrical and electronic repair,beauty culture,cutting tailoring and embroidery,welding,motor mechanic,carpentry,food processing and dress designing.
