West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Thursday said Infosys and Wipro will be given prime land in Rajarhat township, away from the controversial areas acquired by the management of Vedic Village.
“Initially, I was a little bit upset by the Vedic Village controversy. What will we tell these two companies? I have to arrange land for them. Otherwise we have to say, please bear with us, we cannot give you land. But things cannot go on like this for ever,” the Chief Minister said announcing 45 acres each for the two IT majors.
“I want the two IT companies to set up their units. Following the controversy, the IT students were anxious, if the IT companies set up their units, a large number of jobs will be generated,” said CM, in a way making it clear that there has not been any shift in his government’s stance as far as accommodating industries is concerned.
“Some criminal act took place, murders, forcible land grab happened. People were tortured. I want justice, punishment for the criminals... I had no option but to scrap the deal with the Vedic Village company. It is a morally correct decision,” the CM explained. “We will talk to them (Infosys and Wipro) after the press conference. The price will be fixed after discussion with them. Moreover, the land use plan will also be changed to provide them land in Rajarhat,” he said, adding that the area is more suitable as social and physical infrastructure is already ready in Rajarhat.
