  • He gave the cine goers “Emotional Atyachar” and 18 other simply great and different sound tracks. And presently he is in Punjab to scout for those, “real, raw, earthy voices that have never been heard before.” This is Amit Trivedi who like the new crop of young film directors shook up the music scene with his music in films like Amir, Dev D and most recently Ik Tara in Wake up Sid.

Speaking candidly, Amit says, “Emotional atyachar has become my signature song but honestly it is not the kind of music that I would like to do. The phrase “emotional atyachar” along with the idea that this song had to be done on a shaadiwala band came from Anrurag Kashyap, the director of Dev D. I made the song but was never confident that it would click with the public. It is another matter that it became a great hit, though songs from Amir and other compositions from Dev D are my personal favourites.”

When queried why he was scouring the length and breadth of Punjab to tap music talent, Amit says, “I want something different. The time of the fused Bhangra music or the Yash Chopra-kind of Punjabi music have simply saturated. No offence to anybody and though these songs do become a hit but then for me I feel that there is more to Punjabi folk and Sufi music. These are the things that I am looking for. I have some projects coming up and need some new fresh voices.” Amit will now be doing music of films like Sonam Kapoor-starrer Ayesha and Chiller Party, Udaan, and Return Gift to name a few.

    ... contd.
