This one is for Irfan: Yusuf

Irfan Pathan watched his brother Yusuf score his first one-day international century.

Sitting in the stands at the Chinnaswamy Stadium,Irfan Pathan watched his brother Yusuf score his first one-day international century. Irfan — even when he was a regular in the side — always reiterated that Yusuf had much more talent than him. Now,at the National Cricket Academy to undergo rehabilitation for a troublesome back,Irfan would have been pleased to see his brother play the kind of innings that could well earn him a spot in the World Cup squad. Yusuf,in turn, dedicated his whirlwind 123 to his younger brother.

Though Yusuf has put to sword attacks in domestic cricket and Twenty20,this century would give the all-rounder the much needed boost in the arm to become a regular in the ODI side. “We had to chase down 300-plus and I was able to make my maiden hundred. This knock has given me a lot of joy and happiness. I would like to dedicate this to Irfan,my parents and all my friends and coaches who have supported me all the time,” Yusuf said.

His unbeaten innings, coming off just 96 deliveries, hasn’t changed Yusuf’s perception of the role he has in the Indian team. “Today,I came when there were a lot of overs to spare. So I could take my time and play out my innings and win the game. But in this Indian batting line-up,we have big players up the order, who are playing very, very well. So I believe that my best role in the team is to play down the order. It is in this position that I am confident to finish off games and help India win from tough situations,” Yusuf added.

Talking about the general perception that he hasn’t justified his talent,Yusuf said,“The way I play and the position at which I play,I don’t think I can change the too much.” As of now, change will be the last thing on anyone’s mind.
