  • After a brief lull in attacks on Indians in Australia, three members of the community were "brutally bashed" by a group of around 70 youths, including women, who were attending a birthday party in a bar here after making racist remarks against the trio.

26-year-old Sukhdip Singh, who arrived here a month ago on a spouse visa, his brother Gurdeep Singh and uncle Mukhtair Singh were attacked by the group when they were playing pool in a bar in Epping suburb on Saturday.

"At around 11'o clock my brother-in-law Sukhdip was playing pool along with his family members when they were attacked by around 70 locals who were attending a party," the victim's relative Onkar Singh said.

"They were quietly playing and were trying to avoid trouble even after these locals were trying to provoke them by passing comments," he said.

The group started telling them to go back to their country. "When they reached the car park to leave the place a huge crowd attacked them and started bashing them brutally.

The attackers were in their teens and around twenties," he said.

When contacted, a Victoria Police spokesperson said that before the incident took place, a woman made a racist remark to a group of four males playing pool at Legends Bar.

"A short time later, the pool-playing group decided to leave the venue. It is believed they were followed into the car park by up to four males who were part of a larger group celebrating a birthday in the function room," the spokesperson said.

All of you Indians and Aussies on this thread have small Peckers.By: USA ABCD | 08-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Whoa the hatred is ridiculous among these threads...why so much hate? I am an American born and raised Indian and am very proud to be so. Sure, there are a few 7-11 jokes here and there....but what's the big deal? I shell out my share of Imbred country-folk, uncle-daddy jokes out to my White-American brethern and we a get along fine. My parents have been here for 40 years, near Washington DC, Im getting an MBA from a top program and also have two other degrees from outstanding Universities in the DC area. I have also been to Australia and thouroughly enjoyed Melbourne and Sydney including its peoples. I also happen to think that many Indians stink. People, stop being so sensitive, you know very well that some of us Indians (not me) smell really bad. I have a German guy in my MBA class who has the known worst Body Odor than anyone else. I am the only minority in my class and for those who make jokes about my race, I simply refer to their fondness of Macadamia Nuts!
Good to see.By: Davy | 25-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward We need more bashings before the scum take over our country. Stop being nice to the invaders.
Abuse of Indians in AustraliaBy: Jon Sloan | 17-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward I am really sorry to read about attacks on member of the Indian community in Australia. All visitors to my country should feel safe to work and go about their business. Just as I would expect to be able to do if I was in India. Most Australians are horrified by what we have read. I think it is isolated and has affected a small number of people and a small number of thugs have been responsible for the attacks.A small number is still too many however. The idea that Indians should act as a vindictive mob in an attempt to counter these activities is equally horrid and dangerous. Please, your youngsters are mostly safe. We have street crime as all places do, my own son was attacked once, but it is generally rare. Australians are good people please don't judge us by the actions of a few idiot thugs.
Re: Abuse of Indians in AustraliaBy: Hind Warrior | 18-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward "Please don't judge us by the actions of a few idiot thugs". All the Indians and international students contribute $15 billion dollars to the Aussie economy. That is how much we are paying. Our job is to pay and your's is to provide. That is not happening. We come to Australia with good intentions and this is what happens? We get attacked by 70 youths? We have the right to judge you, because this has been happening for much time and even the 'good' Australians havent been able to help us effectively.
@HindBy: Flavian Hardcastle | 18-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Judging a whole race by the actions of a few? That's racism Hind! Didn't you know that?
MrBy: Madhup Srivastava | 17-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Australian Government is ignoring action and procrastinating the issue, little realising that this may become a monster which would be difficult to control.Guilty should be punished immediately and put behind bars in this case. Will Victoria premier look into this immediately. Also Indian Consul general Anita Nayyar is sitting like a dud here without responding to the miseries of Indians. She should go back to India as not fit to represent Indians here in Melbourne
due processBy: Flavian Hardcastle | 17-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward In Australia, we actually have a due process. People aren't automatically punished as soon as they're arrested. They are presumed innocent, until found guilty in a court of law. Unfortunately, because there's only a limited number of judges and lawyers, putting them before trial can take a while. Usually, the suspects are not locked up in the interim, unless a judge has reason to believe they will fail to turn up in court.
Re: due processBy: Hind Warrioir | 18-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward We dont care what the process is in Australia. We want action, however you do it is your headache. If you can't fulfill your responsibilities of providing a safe environment with equal opportunities and acceptance then Australia shouldnt be campaigning in India of what a great country it is.
@HindBy: Flavian Hardcastle | 18-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward We all want instant gratification hind. I'm just helpfully explaining to you why you can't have it in this situation. If you don't like it, try holding your breath.
feel sorryBy: Rajesh | 16-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward I do not feel sorry for no one because when Dr.Hanif was wrongfully prisoned and tortured in Australia then everyone here made a comment good! no one criticize aussie for their behaviour then.
