The CISF is increasing security on the city side of all sensitive airports, including Mumbai,to thwart possible attacks. They fear terrorists might attempt a straight hijacking during peak hours using such a route, rather than the traditional one. The CISF is already in the process of beefing security on the city side of Delhi and Mumbai airports, while plans are being considered for Kolkata,Hyderabad and Bangalore.
The modus operandi they have used once may not be used again. I am just saying this may be a view… may be correct or not… that in future the terrorists may think of attempting a straight hijacking… but there have been cases of passengers trying to overpower the hijackers, CISF additional director general (airports) M S Bali said.
They may now try to attack the airports at peak hours from the frontal side so that they are able to inflict maximum damage. We keep on taking all these factors into our planning and it is for this reason we have got more security deployed on the city side at bigger airports, Bali said. CISF director general N R Das said Mumbai and Delhi will have more CISF security personnel on the city side.
Terror alert
