During inquiry former OC chief told officials that superintendent had offered him tea, biscuits Disciplinary action was recommended against the Tihar Jail superintendent on Monday in connection with the alleged special treatment accorded to former Commonwealth Games OC chairperson Suresh Kalmadi last week. Three more officials, meanwhile, were suspended for other lapses. The action comes two days after an additional sessions judge reported after a surprise check that Kalmadi was being served tea in the jail superintendents office. Additional Director General (Prisons) R N Sharma said,The internal inquiry has found incriminating evidence to confirm the Judges findings. We have recommended disciplinary action to the Ministry of Home Affairs against Superintendent S C Bhardwaj, who had been cleared for a routine transfer to Port Blair jail on June 15. The recommendation has been cleared by the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government. Sharma added that during the inquiry,Kalmadi had himself told jail officials that the superintendent had offered him tea and biscuits when he went to his office. Kalmadi told us he had gone to discuss his health with Bhardwaj, since he was scheduled to go to DDU Hospital, the senior jail official said. Three staff members of Jail 4 have been suspended for 90 days for other irregularities that were pointed out by trial court judge Brijesh Garg, who conducted the surprise check. Two assistant superintendents Krishan Kumar and Jitendra Pal and head warden Shri Satbir have been suspended by the orders of the principal secretary of the home ministry, Sharma added. In his report,Justice Garg had said that Vikas Yadav and Vishal Yadav, serving a life term for the murder of Nitish Katara, were found strolling in the jails gardens after the lock up time and that cells of other high profile prisoners were not locked. According to Sharma, all superintendents had been warned that none of the high profile prisons lodged in their respective jails should be shown any kind of special treatment. Kalmadi,a Congress Member of Parliament from Pune, was arrested by the CBI on April 25,2011 for fraud and for conspiring with other officers of the Organising Committee to overpay a Swiss firm Rs 95 crore for timing and scorekeeping equipment that was used at different venues during the Delhi Commonwealth Games.
