The HP Pavillion series has been a bestseller since its launch, striking a good balance between looks, price, performance and consumer appeal. Last week, HP announced two more additions to the series and branded them Thinspiration for their thin and size-zero figures. With fresh colour combinations, dynamic prints and modern silhouettes, these machines are also designed for the ultra-mobile contemporary consumers who seek comfort, connectivity and mobility in style.

Both laptops are the first on the block with Windows 7 and also boast of battery life close to ten hours. Both are ideal for social networkers, people who want to use their laptops for chatting and video conferencing, and are hence equipped with webcams that work even in low light. Both also sport high definition LED BrightView widescreen displays and full sized keyboards. And, thankfully, despite being thin and light they still come loaded with DVD writers.

The more affordable of the two at Rs 38,500, the dm1 promises 9.45 hours of battery life despite the 11.6-inch diagonal High-Definition LED BrightView Widescreen Display, thanks to its ultra-low voltage processors. It weighs less than 1.5kg and features a 92 per cent full-size keyboard has one-touch launch keys and action keys and a touch pad with dedicated vertical scroll. The 1 GB RAM can be expanded up to 5 GB.

The HP Pavilion dm3, on the other hand, offers an ideal balance of performance, mobility and affordability. The dm3 has an ultra-low voltage Intel C2D processor and discrete graphics plus a battery that can last 10 hours while not sacrificing on performance. Standing all of one inch tall, and weighing 1.91 kilos, the dm3 has a 13.3-inch diagonal high-definition HP LED BrightView widescreen display and a lightweight, brushed aluminum chassis in “modern argento”.
