  • Just a day after the UPA won the trust vote, Finance minister P Chidambaram stated in Jaipur on Wednesday that the UPA will now look to accelerate economic reforms. Brimming with confidence after winning the trust vote without the support of the left parties, Chidambaram also hinted at passing a number of legislations, which have been pending in Parliament for sometime now. Chidambaram was in Jaipur to inaugurate a branch of the Sriram General Insurance Company, which is based in Chennai.

“We will make full efforts to implement much needed economic reforms by passing a number of bills that have been pending in parliament for quite a while,” Chidambaram stated, while addressing reporters after the inauguration.

Following the inauguration of the insurance company, Chidambaram spoke about the pending insurance ceiling legislation. “The insurance bill would enable the government to raise FDI in the insurance sector from 26 per cent to 49 per cent,” Chidambaram said.
