  • High drama prevailed near the MC office in Sector 17 on Wednesday when a tussle between advocates and the traffic police landed SDM (South) Prerna Puri in trouble as her official vehicle was fined for having a black film on the windows.

The incident took place at the dividing road of Sector 16/17 when some lawyers were protesting against the issuance of a challan to their colleague Punnet Chauhan for using a mobile phone while driving.

Inspector Jaswinder Singh said Head Constable Hawa Singh had issued a challan to Chauhan, to which the latter raised objection and summoned his fellow advocates from the Sector-17 district court.

Advocates took to the streets to register their protest against the traffic police when SDM (South) Prerna Puri happened to be passing by in her Ambassador car.

She was stopped by the lawyers who claimed that the black film on her car windows was illegal.

DSP (Central) Jagbir Singh and SHO of the Sector-17 police station Ramesh Chand Sharma reached the spot soon to take stock of the situation.

DSP (Traffic) Vijay Kumar said the driver of the SDM’s car failed to show permission for using the black film. “We have issued a challan of Rs 1,000 to the driver of the car for using a black film without permission,” said Kumar.

According to directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, no person, including government officials, can have completely tinted car windowpanes.
