Dilip Tirkey’s name was conspicuous by its absence as the Indian Olympic Association’s ad hoc selection committee named a list of 48 probables looking ahead at the 2010 World Cup.
The probables will attend a coaching camp, venue yet to be fixed, to prepare for the World Cup, Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games in 2010.
Though Ajit Pal Singh did not explain why Dilip Tirkey was not included, he said that the former India skipper should not think that he cannot make a comeback.
“This is the initial list and we could be adding a few more names to it. Moreover, at the coaching camp, we will monitor the progress of the players and if some of them don’t fit into our scheme of things, we will change,” he added.
Asked when the camp will begin, he did not give a definite date. “Now that the coaches have been appointed for both the senior and junior teams, we will have a meeting with them and decide on the date.”
As reported in The Indian Express, MK Kaushik will take over as the chief coach, with Harender Singh, Ramandeep Singh and Romeo James assisting him. AK Basal will be the chief coach of the junior team with assistance coming from Rajesh Chauhan and Clarence Lobo.
The tenure of the senior team coaches will last till the Asian Games while that of the junior team coaches will be till the Junior World Cup in 2009.
