TMC man posts Mamata Banerjee cartoon on Facebook,quits before backlash

THE district secretary of the Trinamool Congress Chatra Parishad in West Midnapore,Subhojit Das,on Thursday resigned from his post after he posted a message on the social-networking website Facebook criticising Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the aftermath of the death of the 22-year-old SFI leader Sudipta Gupta.

Das had posted a cartoon on his Facebook page where he tried to portray that while Mamata Banerjee was attending the gala opening ceremony of the IPL on Tuesday evening in the company of Bollywood actors ,Sudipto’s sister was crying at the SSKM Hospital after coming to know about her brother’s death.

In a stinging message to the kind of politics prevailing in the state,Das wrote on his profile : “This politics should be stopped”.

“After my party seniors saw my profile,I started receiving threat calls asking me to delete the post. They also asked me why have I expressed my condolences for Sudipta. So,I decided to quit from my post,” he said.

In his resignation letter,Das wrote that he was “disappointed and disgusted with the recent developments in the party” . “I received threat calls from my party seniors after I expressed my condolence to Sudipta. My cartoon depicted two sides of the incident,” he added.

He then went on to write that he had been protesting against several decisions of the party and some of the acts committed by the party leaders made him feel disgusted.

Although I protested against such work,but top party leaders do not want to accept it,he added.

Das said that he was rattled by the tragic death of the youth and he cannot accept such kind of politics being followed in the state.

Hearing in GTA petition adjourned

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing on a GTA petition challenging the appointment of the DM of Darjeeling as principal secretary of the GTA. The case will come up for hearing next Thursday.
