TMC nod for Metro,monorail projects in Metropolitan region

In another crucial push for the metro and monorail projects in the MMR,the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has received a go-ahead from the Thane Municipal Corporation for the portion of these projects falling in its jurisdiction.

With this clearance,the MMRDA will now prepare a detailed project report for two metro corridors — Wadala to Teen Haath naka and Thane to Kasarvadavli.

The metro corridor would be a good supplement to the connectivity between Mumbai and Thane. Rahul Asthana,Metropolitan Commissioner,MMRDA said,“The transport systems in Thane region will witness a paradigm shift with the advent of mega projects like the Metro and Monorail. These projects will bolster the transport systems and hence,the overall socio-economic development in the MMR. The approvals from the Thane Corporation too would expedite both the crucial projects.”

The proposed alignment of a metro corridor the corridor will start from Wadala-Ghatkopar – Mulund and enter the Thane region from Anand Nagar naka and extend from Teen hath Naka- Cadbury-Golden Dyes. Further,the alignment would go up to Kasarvadavli,MMRDA officials said. The Thane region will have 10 metro stations along the route up to 10.95 km in the Thane region. A car-shed admeasuring up to 13.33 hectare has been proposed to be constructed at Kasarvadavli,and the MMRDA would be acquiring land for the car shed.

Another proposal from MMRDA for Monorail in Thane was also been approved by the TMC. The Kapurbawadi-Balkum-Bhiwandi Monorail alignment was approved in the general body meeting of the Corporation,MMRDA official added. This would enable the Authority to align Metro and Mono stations at Kapurbawadi.

In addition,the TMC has proposed MMRDA to construct service roads on both sides of the Ghodbunder Road.
