In her first rally in Haryana since the elections were announced,Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati assured the electorate that the state would have a Haryanvi chief minister if her party came to power.

The opposition to the party’s state affairs chief Mansingh Manhera came out in the open as party supporters raised slogans— Manhera bhagao,BSP bachao (Expel Manhera and save the BSP).

In her 35-minute speech at a rally in Jind on Sunday, however,Mayawati steered clear of the Jat vs non-Jat issue. She added that the list of contesting candidates from the party would be announced on Monday.

The BSP chief, however, maintained that the party will contest the Haryana Assembly elections under the leadership of Manhera.

Lambasting the Congress for the lack of development and lawlessness in Haryana, she said the party was frustrated viewing the growing popularity of the BSP in the country.

Lashing out against both the BJP and Congress for allowing Naxalism to grow in the country,Mayawati said lack of development was the main reason behind the present situation. She also held the parties responsible for the spiralling prices of essential commodities.
