  • Considering the huge number of pending court cases at industrial court for Pune district, the president of industrial court, Mumbai, has deputed a judge from Mumbai for faster redressal of cases.

“B C Chandrakapure, member of industrial court-Mumbai, will address Pune cases in the second week of every month, tentatively from September 7,” said D P Pagare, registrar of Pune labour court. The circular has been issued by D H Deshmukh, in-charge president, industrial court Mumbai. There are about 1,500 pending cases with only one permanent courtroom in the Pune industrial court headed by administrative judge S K Deshpande.

“According to the rules, one court must be assigned for about 500 industrial court cases. Other than a judge, the court has a peon, a stenographer, clerks and other staff. With about 1,500 pending cases, Pune needs at least two more industrial courts,” said advocate Santosh Mhaske. This is the second attempt since April this year to send a judge from Mumbai to address the pending cases. While the earlier judge failed to keep up with the one-week routine, industrial court petitioners are now hoping for faster redressal of their cases.

Meanwhile, the Industrial and Labour Court lawyers resumed work on Monday with caution after the two-week swine flu break. The usually packed court premises saw only a few litigants and lawyers on Monday. The Lok Adalat of Industrial and Labour Court for Pune district has been postponed to September 9 owing to swine flu.
