she teaches chemical formulae and molecular bonding, but her writings transform nature and human emotions into verses. Nalini Purohit, a reader with the Department of Chemistry at M S University, recently released three books of her collection of poetries in three different languages.
With the new releases in her rack, this chemistry teacher now has seven published books to her name. Her recent ones include
The Journey (English), Saundhi Mehek (Hindi) and Bheeni Sodam (Gujarati). Purohit’s tryst with poetry dates back to her schooldays, but she calls it her father’s
inheritance.
“My father was a freedom fighter and a staunch
follower of Mahatma Gandhi. He had a strong emotional attachment to his birthplace Kutch. He used to write articles on various
socio-economic issues of Kutch. After him, I was the only one who took to the pen,” said Purohit.
Her first publication was Anubhuti (1993) followed by a compilation of her father’s articles in Matrubhumi (1994). Her other works
include Urmil Heli (2004) and Manthan (2002).
While nature and Indian women has always drawn her poetic emotions, chemistry too has been her forte.
“Initially, poetry for me was just matching and rhyming words. I only realised my calibre when my school teacher read it
and said I can churn out magic from my pen. Later, during my college days in Ranchi, a Hindi lecturer read my works and said I should get them published and I started taking it seriously,” Purohit said.
