Want to know which is your polling booth for the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls? Log on to the Election Commission of India (ECI) website. In keeping with its theme of "inclusion" for the year 2013, the ECI has undertaken mapping of all 11,594 polling stations in the city.
"We have decided to make 2013 "the year of the electoral roll", with "inclusion" as the theme.
With this theme in mind, all information regarding the 11,594 polling stations and tracking your own polling booth in Delhi is now just a click away. This will encourage better voter participation," Vijay Dev, Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer, told Newsline.
"We wish to make the process of voting as hassle-free as possible. We want to encourage participation by new voters/youth, who form a sizeable chunk of electorate. Since the youth are technology savvy, we decided to make information regarding Assembly constituencies and polling booths handy and available at the click of a button," he said.
On the ECI's website www.eci.nic.in, a tab named "information linked to polling station map" has been provided on the left-side panel. By clicking on the name of the state, the maps will open up.
A voter will have to click on this tab for visiting polling station map pages, and details regarding the 11,594 polling stations of Delhi have been uploaded here.
"A citizen can select district, Assembly constituency and polling station's name from the drop-down list to view a polling station location. Polling stations are seen as pins dropped on the map. On clicking the pin, a balloon opens up showing the names and cellphone numbers of the Chief Electoral Officer, district election officer, electoral registration officer and booth level officer," Neeraj Bharati, Additional CEO, said.
The tab also leads to a link for electoral rolls, clicking on which the entire electoral roll for that polling station opens up in PDF format. While the main application was developed by the ECI through the Department of Electronics, all states were asked to fill their respective data.
