With Samajwadi Party rebel Raj Babbar and Mulayam Singh’s daughter-in-law Dimple Yadav in the fray, the by-election for the Ferozabad Lok Sabha constituency was already a high-profile contest. Rahul Gandhi raised the stakes further by campaigning in the constituency. Wary of Rahul’s appeal to the youth, the Samajwadi Party came up with the idea of organising a cycle rally under Dimple’s husband Akhilesh Yadav on the day of Rahul’s visit, but failed to elicit a response big enough to counter the Congress general secretary’s popularity. SP managers have now decided to rope in film star Sanjay Dutt, who has been sounded out to campaign extensively during the last phase of campaigning.
