To promote rural tourism, Dadumajra pond upgraded to lake

  • A new lake Guru Dronacharya Sarovar was inaugurated at Dadumajra by Union Minister for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation and Tourism Kumari Selja today. The lake, which has been upgraded from a pond, has been made with the aim to promote rural tourism. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Water resources Pawan Kumar Bansal, Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee president B B Behl, Mayor Kamlesh and Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar were also present on the occasion.

    Stressing upon the need for water harvesting, Bansal said there was a need to preserve such ponds in all villages in Chandigarh so that the water level in surroundings could be maintained. He said the Municipal Corporation had done a marvelous job by upgrading the pond into a lake.

    While briefing about the features of the lake, Mayor Kamlesh said the lake, which was spread over two acres, would have three musical floating fountains. The seating area has iron railing around it. The lake also has boating facility apart from lighting arrangements.
