To put pressure on absconding kidnappers, cops pick up relatives

In an attempt to arrest the alleged kidnappers of the three-year-old child of a Delhi-based couple, the UT Police rounded up the families of the accused. The girl was allegedly kidnapped by Jagpal Benipal on January 14. The police has dispatched teams to various places in order to nab the accused.

A police official said the kidnappers were constantly changing their locations. The UT Police is trying to track the current location of the kidnappers, for which team have been dispatched to nab them.

"There are teams, which are following the kidnappers. Also, some of the family members of the accused have been rounded up by the police to build pressure on the kidnappers," the official said.

The mobile numbers traced by the police reportedly include the numbers of a few professional kidnappers. Idu, daughter of Priya Arora and Harish Arora, was allegedly kidnapped by Jagpal Benipal, a resident of Haryana. Benipal is reportedly the business partner of hotelier Priya, who also works in the stock market with her husband, Harish. The couple had come to Chandigarh a few days ago with their daughter, Idu, to resolve a financial dispute and were staying in a hotel in Sector 22.

"The accused came to the hotel on Monday and took Idu out for a ride. When he did not return for a long time, the couple tried to contact Benipal. However, both his phone numbers and those of his friends were switched off," the police said.

The couple then reported the matter to the police. On Monday evening, they got a call from the kidnapper asking for a ransom of Rs 1 crore, and then negotiated the deal for Rs 60 lakhs.

DSP Ashish Kapoor said, "We have dispatched teams and are trying our best to get the child back safely".
